Please Welcome.......

The MBA Board of Directors is pleased to announce that the Executive Director position has been filled.

Melanie Cure joined the Manitoba Badminton Association family on April 6th, bringing a host of skills related to the job.  Mel has been involved in grassroots badminton for two decades, both as a player and a coach. She has been coaching in St-Pierre-Jolys since 2000 and has been running the St-Pierre Badminton Club since 2010. After representing her home region as a junior athlete in the 2002 Manitoba Winter Games, Mel returned as Team Eastman’s Assistant Coach in 2014, then again in 2018 as Team South’s Manager and Assistant Coach. From 2018-2019, she worked as Team Manager for Badminton Manitoba at the Canada Winter Games. Her badminton experience has allowed her to meet competitors and coaches across the province and the country and has given her a broad understanding of the needs facing our community at many levels.

Outside of badminton, Melanie has worked in both the public and private sectors; in recent years she taught at both the University of Manitoba and the University of Winnipeg.  She also has a wealth of experience working alongside organizations and small businesses to plan projects, promote events, and tackle a variety of issues.

Mel is excited to take on this new role and further serve the badminton community. For the time being, Mel and Ryan will work together as co-directors (from home), tackling the obstacles and challenges brought on by COVID-19 and preparing for the upcoming badminton season.  Once Mel has had an opportunity to grapple the many aspects of the job then she will take over as full-time Executive Director.

Mel can be reached at [email protected]
