Tournament Description
We are so proud and excited to extend our Rural Super Series to Selkirk for the Inaugural Yonex Interlake Open!
The Interlake is home to some great badminton talents over the years including Pat Chawla, Dale Kinley, Ryan Giesbrecht, Alexandra Dansen and Caitlin Dansen. There are also some great badminton clubs including the Interlake Badminton Club (Stonewall), Selkirk Badminton Club, Gimli Badminton Club and many others.
Selkirk Badminton Club will be host to the first ever Interlake Open and it will be held in both the Selkirk Comp and Lockport School. The U15/U17 athletes will be in Lockport School, and the U19/Open athletes will be at the Comp. On Sunday all finals will be played at The Selkirk Comp, home of the Selkirk Badminton Club.
Players will be treated to a friendly atmosphere, and plenty of games as long as there are plenty of registrations. All participants will get a souvenir t-shirt, a free personal pizza at Boston Pizza, and there will be medals for juniors and prizes for the Open category.
Rural Super Series Vision:
Give the athletes in Rural Manitoba an opportunity to showcase their skills, continuing playing badminton competitively and for fun beyond high school, and play in an atmosphere as professionally developed as anywhere else in Manitoba.
Create a circuit of tournaments that both acknowledges the growth of badminton in Rural Manitoba and complements it by giving athletes an opportunity to connect with each other through the sport of badminton.
Create additional opportunities to develop Officials (referees & umpires), Coaches, Athletes & Tournament Organizers.
