Quadruple-Triple for Haley
Manitou Raised Badminton Star Refuses to Quit Winning

UofW Duckworth Centre, April 10-12 - Manitoba crowns it's 2015 provincial champions amongst a very competitive field at the UofW Duckworth Centre; which includes Manitou-raised Haley Nakonechnywho earned her fourth Triple Crown victory in a row.

First it was the Junior Provincial Championships in January, then it was the Winnipeg Winter Club Open in February.  In March, she took victories over Manitoba and Ontario in the Pal Chawla Manitoba Junior Open.  Well now the Bell of the Ball took home the Triple Crown AGAIN; this time at the most competitive tournament so far, the Yonex Provincial Championships at UofW Duckworth Centre.

"This Manitou-raised badminton crusher has been tearing up the courts for some time and is really coming into her own on the Provincial Open scene.  She has a hard work ethic and focused mentality so we expect that she'll carry this momentum into Junior Nationals at the end of the month", said Provincial Coach Justin Friesen.

This being her first full season with consistent training partners, Haley is sure to only improve with time as she moves into the U23 and Open categories.  This is her last year in U19 and her last chance to go for a medal in the junior categories at Junior Nationals, in Winnipeg nonetheless.

Provincial Coach Justin Friesen also had this to say, "She's been one of our most talented provincial team members for a number of years now, but she hasn't had the chance to take advantage of a FULL training program including strength training and nutrition consulting.  I see this as an advantage over other players because she can peak at the right time.  Badminton players should be peaking in their mid to late 20's and unfortunately our local players lots of times will quit at the age of 20.  Haley isn't burned out like other Winnipeg players and because of that I'm more excited to see her grow into the Open events and play at the Adult National Championships."

In the other events, Kyle Grymonpre would claim his first Provincial Championship title by beating 2-time champion Andrew Harrison in the Men's Singles Final.  Provincial Coach Justin Friesen would pair up with Executive Director Ryan Giesbrecht to win Men's Doubles over former Olympian Anil Kaul and former Junior Pan Am Silver Medalist Sean Chawla.  Misilyna Wu Paired up with Haley to win Women's Doubles, and Dale Kinley of the Interlake Badminton Club paired up with Haley to take home the Mixed Doubles.
