Tournament Description
The last tournament left on the adult schedule for this year is also one of the funnest tournaments you could attend. There is a healthy mix of playing for fun and playing to win, which is the true essence of a great tournament.
This year it will be held at Stonewall Collegiate on Fri/Sat May 9/10. The tournament will be a bare-bones tournament so that we can keep the cost low and the # of games high. That means less prizes, no souvenir and no complimentary meal - however the cost is only $30.00 and it will be organized in a way to increase the # of matches for everybody. Prizes will be awarded for the winner(s) of each event only.
There will be 3 separate age categories - 30+, 45+ & 60+ which will hopefully separate people into appropriate levels of capability, however strong players are welcome to enter into lower age categories if they feel like the challenge. Players however cannot move up an age category (think opposite of juniors!)
One last thing - starting with this year's results the winners will have their names engraved on a new trophy dedicated to the Manitoba Seniors & Masters. There will be a separate trophy for 30+ and 45+, and one of them will be named "in honour of Barry Ursell" and will be donated by Barry Ursell's family. Barry Ursell started playing badminton when he was 13 and is now the record holder for most National Badminton Championships. All of Barry's national championships were won in his senior years at the National Seniors & Masters Championships, and because of this he is an example of resilience and pure love of the sport. Barry passed away approximately 2 years ago leaving behind a great badminton legacy.
We look forward to seeing you out there!
You may sign up for 3 events total. The entry fee is $30.00, regardless of how many events you enter.
