About the Tournament:
Phil Allard began his badminton career many years ago, where he quickly became one of the best players in the Province.
Phil ended his last year as a Junior in 1993 with a Triple Crown win at the Manitoba Junior Open.
He continued to play as a Senior competitor, before moving on to become one of the top National players, pairing up with partners the likes of Olympian Anna Rice.
Phil also contributed off the court chairing the committee for Junior Nationals held in Winnipeg in 1994 and more recently as Treasurer for Badminton Alberta.
In addition to playing badminton Phil was a force to be reckoned with on the tennis and squash courts and anything else he set his mind to try.
Always the competitive type - he was also the most modest, and always had a smile for everyone.
Phil was killed in 2008 along with friends and colleagues, in a plane crash in Alberta.
He will be fondly remembered for his great love of laughter and life.
Phillipe Allard
