Coaching

NCCP System

The National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) is the system used by most sporting organizations in Canada for developing coaches in their specific sports. The NCCP system currently has 5 levels of certification from grass roots level coaching at level 1 to National and International coaching at level 5.

Each level has 3 components: Theory, Technical, and Practical. The Theory portion is non-sport specific in the early levels covering various multi-sport aspects such as the ethics of coaching, performance psychology, and prevention and recovery along with many other areas Later stages of theory cover these areas more in depth and become more sport specific.

The Technical component of the certification covers the sport specific skills and knowledge needed in order to be able to coach effectively. The Practical portion allows you to put the knowledge gained from the Theory and Technical components into action in coaching situations. Completing all 3 components of a level gets you fully certified in that level.

The MBA is proud to use this system for their coaches and the compensation received from coaching is based on a coaches level of certification. The compensation rates are as follows:

Level 1 Technical - $10/hr

Level 1 Fully Certified - $12/hr

Level 2 Technical - $14/hr

Level 2 Fully Certified - $16/hr

Level 3 Fully Certified - $20/hr

We would like to encourage all coaches in Manitoba to work towards increasing their level of certification to benefit badminton in Manitoba.

NCCP Technical Course Coming Soon

The MBA will be hosting a Level 2 Technical course the weekend of October 24-25th, 2009. The technical will be covering many important skills in badminton ranging from specific shots to footwork to strategy for singles and doubles. Anil Kaul will be facilitating this technical.

We encourage all coaches interested in this opportunity to finish up any Theory or Practical components to their certification. In order to be eligible for the Level 2 Technical all coaches must be fully certified for their Level 1 and have completed the Introduction to Competition B Theory course.

RESPECT IN SPORT
The Manitoba Badminton Association (MBA) is proud to partner with Sport Manitoba and embrace the Respect in Sport program to help ensure a safe and positive environment for all participants.  Respect in Sport (RIS) is an on-line training course designed to assist coaches, regardless of their sport, in identifying and dealing with issues of abuse, neglect, harassment and bullying.  It is designed to complement current coaching certification requirements.

Former NHL player Sheldon Kennedy is championing Respect in Sport as its spokesperson.  This initiative is fully endorsed by the Province of Manitoba, Sport Manitoba, Coaching Manitoba and the MBA.

"Sheldon is an active crusader in raising awareness of abuse and the negatives that can occur and we are pleased to support his efforts" said Eric Robinson, the minister responsible for Sport.  "We are being proactive in ensuring that a safe haven exists for sport participants and Manitoba is proud to be a leader in this respect."

The three-hour course can be taken at the coach’s leisure, in its entirety or in separate half-hour modules. Coaches will be required to complete the course by the end of December 2007. There is no cost to the coach and the program will provide for recertification after the third and fifth year. Sport Manitoba and Provincial Sport Organizations will monitor the participation of coaches....

Respect in Sport is available in both English and French. Future plans include development and implementation of a Respect in Sport program geared toward parents.

Canadian Red CrossRespect in Sport

Sport Manitoba, along with the MBA believe in being proactive in ensuring sport in our province is safe and welcoming for all participants.

Respect in Sport helps us promote those values through a simple and convenient on-line training course for coaches and sport leaders. It is designed as a tool to assist coaches in identifying and dealing with abuse, neglect, harassment, and bullying in sport.

Respect in Sport enables coaches to deal with legal and moral responsibilities, making them less vulnerable and more confident in dealing with sensitive issues. A risk management tool, Respect in Sport will help sport organizations reduce liability.
